Computer virus or virus has always been exist since the invention of computer. If you own a computer or laptop, you will get to know computer virus. Here are few basic steps to kill virus in a computer:
1. Kill the virus process
Computer virus is basically a software. It runs on a computer with its own process from an exe source file. It needs to be killed in order to stop the spread and its effects. Besides, if the process has not been stopped yet, the main file will not be able to be deleted. As for the ‘killing’ software, there are few good programs could be used such as Process Explorer, CurrProcess, or even Windows Task Manager. As for which process is the virus, you will need to familiarize yourself with all running processes in Windows Task Manager. Need a little bit efforts, I admit.
2. Delete the virus file
After the process has been stopped, you can delete the main virus file. The names of the main file usually also the name of the process. So before stopping the virus process, you need to memorize or copy its name and location. The location can be identified by right clicking the process and click the location related sub menu. Alternatively, you can also locate it by using “Search” feature with the process name as the keyword. Find it, and delete it.
3. Scan using antivirus
After the computer is clean, you need to make sure everything’s will be alright by doing the full scan of antivirus. You need to clean another virus companion files.
4. Clean the registry
The registry is the heart of the operating system (Windows), so every virus will get here. You need to clean it with another software (TuneUp, Registry Cleaner, etc). Or if you experienced enough in registry, you can manually located. But I can’t tell you how here. There is registry locations are needed to be checked, it will be a long post if I explain here. Just stick with the software, until you familiar with registry because it is a little bit risky.
Those are the first aid steps for handling a computer virus based on my experience. Of course, these steps can be applied if the virus doesn’t stop you from logon. After all, the best cure is to prevent it from happening. Good luck!
